Congratuations to Angel Matos

April 12, 2017 • Categories: Students and Alumni

Angel Matos will be a tenure-track Assistant Professor of English and Comparative Literature at the San Diego State University, with a specialization in children’s and young adult literature and queer studies starting Fall 2017.  He was the Gender Studies Research Coordinator 2014-15 and was the Gender Studies Teaching Apprenticeship Recipient 2014-2015.

Currently Angel Daniel Matos is a CFD Postdoctoral Fellow in English at Bowdoin College.  He obtained his Ph.D. in English and a graduate minor in Gender Studies at the University of Notre Dame in May 2016, and was a Kinesis-Fernandez fellow at that institution from 2011-16. His teaching and research focuses primarily on contemporary young adult literature and queer studies, with a particular interest in narrative, LGBTQ literature, and queer/affect theory. His dissertation, entitled “Feeling Infinite: Affect, Genre, and Narrative in Young Adult Queer Literature,” unpacks the role of positive affect and optimism in young adult works with queer content, concentrating specifically on the ways in which young adult literature broadens and complicates our understanding of a contemporary LGBTQ canon. Angel is currently part of the editorial board of The ALAN Review, and also serves as a column editor for this journal.

Congratulations Angel!
