Women’s Week is a series of events on which we have collaborated with the Gender Relations Center since the Spring of 2013. Our collaboration began in honor of the 40th anniversary of coeducation at Notre Dame. Since then, Women’s Week has become an annual event, and both Shades and the GRC are looking forward to its growth both this year and in the future. Women’s Week 2017 will take place from March 27th through April 1st. This year’s theme is “Honoring Trailblazing Women in Labor and Business” and the events are as follows:
Monday, March 27th: Honoring Women Housekeepers
We will kick off Women’s Week with a celebration in honor of some of the most overlooked influential members of the Notre Dame community, our women housekeepers.
Tuesday, March 28th:Prayer Service
We will continue the week with a prayer service filled with praise, worship, and prayer, led by our own members. Light refreshments provided.
Wednesday, March 29th: Eating With Entrepreneurs
This luncheon will be an opportunity for female student leaders to interact with prominent female trailblazers and entrepreneurs from various sectors of business.
Wednesday, March 29th: 3rd Annual Cafemme
This event will bring together different multicultural groups on campus for a night of poetry, music, dance, and other performances. The event will be free, but donations of toiletries will be accepted in support of St. Margaret’s House.
Thursday, March 30th: 5th Annual Celebration of Women Dinner
The main event of the week will take place on Thursday night and will be a dinner at 6:30pm at Legends, featuring guest speakers who will share about their experiences in corporate business. RSVP only. Hosted by the Gender Relations Center.
Thursday to Saturday, March 30th - April 1st: “Hidden Figures” Movie Showing
In collaboration with the Society of Women Engineers, the Black Cultural Arts Council, and SUB, we will be showing "Hidden Figures" Thursday through Saturday nights to end Women's Week.
"Shades of Ebony is an organization founded by black women at the University of Notre Dame to unify, empower, and inspire women of all shades through engaging dialogue and service in the South Bend community. We sculpt the intellectual, spiritual, and social experiences of women through fellowship within a sisterhood of inclusion."
