Gourab Ghosh will discuss the Erotic and the Phobic—Queer Politics and Struggles in India
This talk will discuss the history of politics of being queer and the struggles against the British colonial law, Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code, which criminalizes homosexuality in India. The talk will also highlight the issues and rights of the transgender community in India, and the current status of the LGBT community in social and legal spaces of India. The discussion will include comparison of queer struggles and rights in the context of South Asia vis-à-vis the US.

Gourab Ghosh is currently a Fulbright FLTA at the University of Notre Dame. He is a queer rights activist based in Delhi, India, and often writes political pamphlets on class, gender, and sexuality.
