By being a Gender Studies minor, I accomplished one of my life dreams—to write a play that deals with the intersection of relationships, desires, and pornography. This dream would not have been possible except for the close faculty mentoring and support I received in the Gender Studies Program as well as for the theoretical basis I attained while taking courses such as Theories of Sexual Differences or while writing a gender studies senior thesis on the American pornography debate. In addition to achieving one of my dreams, I received a Genevieve D. Willis grant through Gender Studies to conduct research in Hohoe, Ghana, on the effects of matrilineal and religious traditions on gender and female oppression in Ghana.
