My sophomore year, I enrolled in "Gendering Christianity" on a whim. This became one of the most thought-provoking classes I would take at Notre Dame. It challenged my identity as both a Catholic and Feminist and helped me reconcile the two. Discussing gender issues which inform our culture built my confidence in science classes, where I was one of few women. While Notre Dame has better retention than many universities with respect to women in STEM majors, my academic career may take me to places with lower retention. I chose to pursue a minor in gender studies so that I may support those women who struggle with their identity within STEM fields.
