CALL FOR PAPERS

Through Gendered Lenses – An Undergraduate Academic Journal in Gender Research and Scholarship

 

Through Gendered Lenses is a student-organized academic journal created with the purpose of fostering research in the broad field of Gender Studies and highlighting excellent gender-related work being done by undergraduate Notre Dame students across the university. We welcome submissions from all disciplines. Submissions must focus on gender topics, including but not limited to, sexuality, religion, the family, media, health, economics, culture, and violence.  Paper submissions are due on the January 31 by 5:00 PM

Sophie White CF

Sophie White, Associate Professor of American Studies and Concurrent Associate Professor of Gender Studies, was awarded a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Humanities (N.E.H.) for her book project on “Voices of the African Diaspora Within and Beyond the Atlantic World.” This research is centered on the analysis of an extraordinary body of testimony by enslaved Africans in colonial Louisiana and beyond, and seeks to give voice to the (often gendered) verbal and non-verbal stories which enslaved individuals, forced into a global African diaspora, sought somehow to narrate. This is White's second N.E.H. fellowship, she also received one for her first book, which was a finalist for the Berkshire Conference of Women Historians Book Prize, Wild Frenchmen and Frenchified Indians: Material Culture and Race in Colonial Louisiana

Angel D. Matos, a fourth-year Ph.D. candidate in English and Gender Studies Graduate Minor student, was recently nominated by the Graduate School for the Midwest Association of Graduate Schools' Excellence in Teaching Award. Each MAGS member institution may submit only one Ph.D. nomination, and Angel was Notre Dame's choice this year.…
