Postdoctoral Fellowship in Gender Studies University of Notre Dame

Position Description:
The Gender Studies Program at the University of Notre Dame invites applications for a one-year postdoctoral fellowship in Gender Studies to begin August 2019. The successful candidate will teach one course per semester (two courses total) and will be expected to pursue a program of independent research and participate in the scholarly life of the faculty. The fellowship stipend is $40,000 plus benefits and a $2,000 research and travel budget. Area of concentration is open; however, the Program has identified the intersectional study of sexualities, masculinities, transnational and U.S.-multiracial feminisms, and trans studies as core areas for growth. Applicants must be fluent in gender/feminist theory and methodologies and prepared to teach an undergraduate elective course in one or more of the areas listed above. Evidence of scholarly achievement and successful teaching experience is essential.…

An Undergraduate Academic Journal
in Gender Research and Scholarship


The Gender Studies Program seeks a student graphic artist to produce the cover artwork for Through Gendered Lenses, the annual undergraduate research journal published by Triota, the Gender Studies Honor Society. It is preferred (but not required) for the artwork to reflect in some way the workings of gender and/or sexuality in the Notre Dame community. Abstract imagery is welcome. Past experience in graphic design is preferred. The artist will be paid $150 for their contribution.…

PhD Student wins the prestigious Victoria Urbano Graduate Student Essay Award

Paola Uparella Reyes, PhD candidate in the Spanish program in the department of Romance Languages and Literatures won the Victoria Urbano Graduate Student Essay Award by the International Association of Gender and Sexualities Studies. Her essay titled “The Guamanpumian Gaze and Colonial Shame (Guaman Poma's sketches of genitalia)” studies Guaman Poma's overlooked textual and visual representations of indigenous woman genitalia and annus (“güergüenzas”). This research is part of an upcoming article and of a chapter of Paola’s dissertation “Mirada, poder y genitalidad. La emergencia visual del género” [Gaze, Power and Genitality: the Visual Engendering of Gender] directed by Professor Carlos A. Jáuregui. Paola has presented this work at professor Jauregui’s graduate Seminar on Cultural Theory (2017), the Kellogg Institute’s Latin American History Working Group (organized by Professor Karen Graubart; Feb. 2018), the Universidad de los Andes (Aug. 2018), and the University of Illinois-Chicago (Sep. 2018).…
