Sara L. Maurer
Sara L. Maurer is an associate professor of English and a Fellow of the Keough Naughton Institute for Irish Studies. Maurer teaches and writes on nineteenth-century British and Irish literature, with a special emphasis on the novel. Her current project “Reading with Care” examines both canonical and non-canonical works in order to explore how fiction imagines the pure generosity of giving without receiving. She is also at work on a survey of nineteenth-century Irish realism. She has supervised dissertations that explore the relationship of nineteenth-century literature to religion, to Ireland and the Celtic regions, to children’s literature, and to gender studies. She especially enjoys her work advising undergraduate honors theses, on topics ranging from 18th century novels to 21st century feminist dystopias, and everything in between.
