A one-day conference on Contemporary Latina Theater
Latina Theater Today: New Voices will feature two free panels of leading theater professionals and scholars exploring the current state of Latina theater. The conference will include a performance of Provenance by Anne García-Romero.

Panel 1: U.S. New Play Development: New Voices
This first panel will delve into new play development and contemporary Latina/o theater in the United States.
Panelists include:
Henry Godinez, Resident Artistic Associate at the Goodman Theater in Chicago and Associate Professor of Theater at Northwestern University
Juliette Carrillo, Ensemble Member at the Cornerstone Theater Company in Los Angeles
Tlaloc Rivas, Stage Director and Assistant Professor of Theater at the University of Missouri-St. Louis
Moderator: Anne García-Romero, Moreau Fellow, Department of Film, Television, and Theatre, University of Notre Dame
Panel 2: Contemporary U.S. Theater: Latina Voices
The second panel will examine the work of numerous twenty-first century Latina playwrights.
Panelists include:
Tiffany Ana López, Associate Professor of Theater, The University of California at Riverside
Linda Saborío, Assistant Professor of Spanish, Northern Illinois University
Melissa Huerta, PhD candidate in the Department of Hispanic and Italian Studies at the University of Illinois at Chicago
Moderator: Cynthia Duarte, Fellow at the Institute for Latino Studies, University of Notre Dame
Performance: 7:30 - 9:30 pm

The conference will include a performance of Provenance, the latest play by University of Notre Dame Moreau Fellow, Anne García-Romero who describes her new work as follows: "When two sisters receive a stolen painting created by their Mexican great-grandfather, the women clash over whether to keep or sell the valuable artwork." Chuck Graham in the Tucson Citizen writes of her previous work, "García-Romero has a writing style that comfortably contains the literary spirit of Gabriel García Márquez, Jorge Luis Borges and others... The conversations in this play flow back and forth in gentle shapes."
The performance will be held in the DeBartolo Performing Arts Center's Philbin Theatre followed by a post-play discussion with the author.
Admission to the conference panels is free.
Students attending both panels will receive a complimentary ticket to the performance.
Tickets for the performance can be purchased at the DeBartolo Performing Arts Center Box Office or Online: $5 for students, $10 for General Admission.
