Majors/Minors: Management Consulting and Gender Studies
"Management Consulting and Gender Studies" many people exclaim, "what an interesting combination." This is the response that I receive when people hear my majors. They are curious as to why I decided to choose these fields of study during my four years at Our Lady's University.
To me, these majors are the perfect combination. The business world is dominated by men, but further many of our social interactions are from a male, heteronormative, ableist, and privileged perspective. This is simply the perspective that dominates society. Therefore we, as a society, fail to look at the intersectionalities of those who we are working with. More commonly it comes from a place of ignorance rather than a deliberate failing on our parts. Gender Studies truly opened me up to understanding people, and the social construction of so much of our daily lives. I strongly encourage anyone of any major to expand your mind and learn about social interactions with a gender studies class!
***For all those interested, my parents were skeptical, but I found a job and the Gender Studies helped set me apart. I will be working with people so this major allows me to understand them in a different way.
