Graduation year: 2015
Majors/Minors: Chemical Engineering major, Gender Studies minor
My first interest in Gender Studies began even before I started taking any classes. At the end of my freshman year, I joined the FIRE Starters, the peer educators of the Gender Relations Center. Through my work there, I found myself becoming more and more interested in gender dynamics, the issues with sexual orientation, and everything related to gender and Notre Dame. So, sophomore year, I took my first Gender Studies class and instantly fell in love with the academics. I added a Gender Studies minor within weeks of that first class, and, every semester since, my favorite class has always been the Gender Studies class I enrolled myself in. I've taken classes on masculinity, gendered spaces, and even on movie musicals. So many classes can be cross-listed with gender, so it is easy, even for an engineer like myself, to fit Gender Studies into your time at Notre Dame.
