Coming into a heterosexual and patriarchal university as a freshman, I was interested in Gender Studies in my first year. However, I did not think it was a substantial thing to study, nor did I believe it would be worth my time. I was wrong. I am so happy I decided to try to fit in a minor. It was really not even a problem with my two majors! Talking to Abby, the Undergraduate Director, encouraged me to follow my passion. My Gender Studies classes were by far my favorite classes here at Notre Dame, I truly enjoyed going to each one. The discussions were rigorous and every single class I believe I learned something vital to my life and success. I feel more competent as an individual and more competent as a feminist because I can now stand up for my beliefs with true logic and reason through this education. I recommend Gender Studies to students of every background. Everyone should have knowledge of this subject because of the relevance it has in our world.
