Jada's areas of expertise are Postcolonial studies, 20th/21st-century African American literature, Black folklore and folk horror, Transnational Black literature, Black feminism, and the Gothic.

 

Jada Grisson (she/they) is an English Ph.D. student and a Deans' Fellow at the University of Notre Dame. They study the relationship between Black Gothic modalities, literary geography and transnational Diasporic engagement with these ideas. She is deeply invested in the construction of monsters, racialization, and place, with particular regard to the Black vampire in America. Questions that guide their research are: How are Gothic narratives utilized to shield and rupture colonial realities? What information has been stored within the Black Gothic tradition? What is the role of orality in the manifestation of/reception of a haunting? How does the status of a member of the undead operate within the context of Black living/dying in the Americas?
