Postdoctoral Fellow
The Gender Studies Postdoctoral Fellowship, introduced in 2019, assists recent PhDs in gender/feminist/sexuality studies in developing their research and teaching.
During the year(s) of residence, the Postdoctoral Fellow conducts independent research in their specific area of study and teaches two courses for the Program. Our Postdoctoral Fellow also participates in the scholarly life of the Gender Studies faculty, and serves as a close colleague with the Internal Scholar-in-Residence in a mutual relationship that promises career mentorship for the postdoctoral scholar and increased familiarity with the contemporary field of gender/feminist/sexuality studies for the more senior Internal Scholar-in-Residence.
Other responsibilities are determined in consultation with the Director and Associate Director, as well as in relation to the final candidate’s profile and interests, but may include developing and coordinating a specific program initiative. To participate fully in the life of the Program, the Postdoctoral Fellow is expected to work primarily from the Gender Studies office for the year of residence and to be available for meetings with Gender Studies staff, faculty, and students.

Description
The Gender Studies Program at the University of Notre Dame invites applications for a two-year postdoctoral fellowship in Gender Studies to begin August 2023. The successful candidate will teach one course per semester and will be expected to pursue a program of independent research and participate in the scholarly life of the faculty. The fellow is expected to be in residence. The fellowship stipend is $55,000 plus benefits and a $2,000 research and travel budget (per annum). Applicants must be fluent in feminist and queer theories and methodologies and prepared to teach both core courses (feminist and gender theory) and Gender Studies electives in their area of specialization. Evidence of scholarly achievement and successful teaching experience is essential.
Housed in Notre Dame’s College of Arts & Letters, the Gender Studies Program is a vibrant interdisciplinary community of students and scholars that offers an undergraduate major and minor and a graduate minor. In addition to its degree programs, Gender Studies sponsors a wide array of campus and community programming, including graduate student and faculty research workshops, a book club, a film series, a journal of undergraduate research, and international conferences in the field.
Qualifications
Applications are welcome from scholars who hold a PhD in Gender / Feminist / Sexuality Studies. All degree requirements should be completed before August 1, 2023. Preference will be given to candidates who have received their degree within the last five years. Applicants without a degree in hand by the time of application must include a statement from their director attesting to the candidate's ability to complete the PhD before August 1, 2023.
